Opera theatre filled with people

Every note sung and every curtain raised is made possible by you.

Every dollar you give is an investment in the well-being, creativity, and future of our community.

Florida Grand Opera is more than an arts organization — it’s a cultural cornerstone and economic catalyst for South Florida. With more than $47 million in annual economic impact, FGO fuels local businesses, supports jobs, and draws thousands to our theaters. But the power of opera extends far beyond the stage.

From inspiring students in classrooms to uplifting patients in hospitals, FGO transforms lives through the universal language of music. We train the next generation of opera stars, offer free performances to underserved communities, and collaborate with over 30 nonprofit partners to ensure the arts remain accessible and impactful.

Your support makes this possible.

When you give to Florida Grand Opera, you’re not just supporting a performance — you’re investing in education, innovation, wellness, and the creative spirit that binds our community together.

Donor-Advised Funds (DAFs) Policy

Florida Grand Opera is grateful for the support of donors who recommend grants through Donor-Advised Funds (DAFs). DAF giving is a powerful way to invest in the future of opera and expand our impact across South Florida.

What is a Donor-Advised Fund?

A Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) is a charitable giving account administered by a sponsoring organization (such as Fidelity Charitable, Schwab Charitable, Vanguard Charitable, or a community foundation). Donors recommend grants from their DAF to qualified nonprofit organizations like Florida Grand Opera.

Important DAF Rules (Goods & Services)

DAF grants must be fully charitable and generally may not be used for payments that provide a donor with more than incidental benefits.

Accordingly, Florida Grand Opera’s policy is:

DAF grants may be used for:

  • Fully tax-deductible charitable gifts (unrestricted or restricted to an approved purpose)
  • Gifts where all benefits are waived
  • Program and mission support (e.g., artistic, education, community engagement, wellness initiatives)

DAF grants may not be used for:

  • Event tickets, gala tables, sponsorships with benefits, or ticketed experiences
  • Purchases of goods or services (including merchandise, auctions, raffles, or other quid-pro-quo items)
  • Any contribution where the donor (or family/guests) receives benefits such as meals, entertainment, admission, preferred seating, parking, receptions, or other tangible perks

Membership & Donor Benefits

If a donor uses a DAF to make a gift that is associated with a membership or donor level that typically includes benefits, all benefits must be waived in order for Florida Grand Opera to accept the grant as a DAF contribution.

Pledges

Because DAF rules vary by sponsoring organization, Florida Grand Opera may accept DAF grants toward a pledge only when permitted by the donor’s DAF sponsor and when the payment is fully charitable and benefit-free. We recommend donors confirm pledge-payment eligibility directly with their DAF sponsor.

Recognition & Gift Credit

  • Florida Grand Opera will provide an acknowledgement receipt to the DAF sponsoring organization and may send a courtesy thank-you to the recommending donor when permitted.
  • Donors may request anonymous recognition.
  • When possible, Florida Grand Opera will provide donor recognition and internal credit consistent with the donor’s intent and the DAF sponsor’s guidelines.

How to Recommend a DAF Grant

When recommending a grant, donors should include:

  • Florida Grand Opera
  • A note such as: “This grant is fully charitable; no goods or services were provided in exchange for this gift.”
  • Any designation (if applicable), e.g., “Education Programs,” “General Operating Support,” etc.
