Studio Artists
The Program
FGO’s Studio Artists spend up to two years in South Florida, where they refine their craft, expand their repertoire, perform leading roles, and build the professional networks that will sustain them throughout their careers. Training is guided by FGO’s experienced staff under the leadership of Jared Peroune, Samuel M. Townsend Studio Artist Program Manager & Chorus Director, and further enriched by internationally renowned faculty, including Arturo Chacón-Cruz and Louis Otey.
The program also provides in-house audition opportunities with agents and General Directors, along with media training to prepare artists for a successful and sustainable professional life in opera. Each year, it welcomes young professionals of exceptional promise who demonstrate the potential to make significant contributions to the art form.
Additionally, the program now features Training for Impact, a groundbreaking initiative that provides specialized training and certification in crisis work designed specifically for artists. This program equips participants with essential skills in mental health awareness and cultural competency. Training includes recognizing trauma, managing emotional dynamics, and offering compassionate engagement, as well as developing the ability to understand diverse backgrounds and tailor performances accordingly. Artists also receive instruction in crisis management techniques and strategies for creating safe, supportive environments during workshops and performances.
