Florida Grand Opera Welcomes
Teatro Real to Miami

Fire · Guitar · Legend.

One night only at the | Knight Concert Hall – Adrienne Arsht Center | OCT 17, 2026 | 8:30PM

Miami is our home. And when our friends from Europe come to the United States, we open our doors and give them a warm welcome to the Magic City. We are, after all, the Gateway to the Americas.

On October 17, 2026, Teatro Real, the Royal Theater of Spain, makes its Miami debut at the Knight Concert Hall. The concert is part of the celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of American independence, honoring the ties that have united this continent with Spain for centuries. It is the perfect overture to our 85th Anniversary Season. We invite you to join us in hosting the artistry of our friends and collaborators from Madrid.

“Miami has always been the meeting place of worlds. When Teatro Real crosses the Atlantic, they arrive not as visitors but as family. We are honored to welcome them to our city, our stage, and our hearts. This is what the future of opera looks like. Great houses, hand in hand, across oceans.”

"The incredible city of Miami enjoys a privileged geographic location that makes it a pivotal point between the two Americas. Florida Grand Opera gives voice and visibility to artists, stories, and traditions that reflect the demographic diversity of an entire continent.”

Teatro Real

ROYAL OPERA OF SPAIN

The Teatro Real is Madrid’s opera house and Spain’s foremost lyric theater, located on the Plaza de Oriente opposite the Royal Palace. Commissioned by King Ferdinand VII and designed by Antonio López Aguado, it was inaugurated by Queen Isabel II in 1850 with Donizetti’s LA FAVORITA. After closing in 1925 because of structural damage, it reopened as a concert hall in 1966 and returned to opera in 1997 following a major renovation.

Under Artistic Director Joan Matabosch, formerly of Barcelona’s Gran Teatre del Liceu, the theater presents a wide-ranging repertoire. Its seasons combine the great classics with rarities, 20th-century works and new commissions. It has championed Spanish composers with world premieres including García Abril’s DIVINAS PALABRAS, Halffter’s DON QUIJOTE and de Pablo’s EL ABRECARTAS. Gustavo Gimeno became Music Director in the 2025–2026 season, leading the resident Orquesta Sinfónica de Madrid and Intermezzo Choir.

Named Opera Company of the Year at the 2021 International Opera Awards, the Teatro Real also reaches audiences worldwide through its My Opera Player streaming platform and its accessibility programs.
